Stranded City is a collection of web-based procedural experiments exploring topics of creativity and authorship in a programmed world. There are generally two intended audiences: consumers and creators of procedural programmed art.
As web-based projects, the experiments presented here are by design accessible. They are not about user interaction, but are intended to be generally usable by anyone with a modern browser. Many (though not all) will also work on tablets and phones. If you appreciate digital imagery, this site is for you.
For programmers, Stranded City is intended as a place for its contributors to share discoveries, techniques, and contributions. A single experiment may result in many posts along the way, each documenting a small but significant discovery on the part of its author.
The name Stranded City is loosely inspired by Ersilia, one of its creator’s favorites of Calvino’s Invisible Cities. Other projects the creator is invested in can be found here here and here.
